1/48 Hasegawa P-47D - Saucy Susie

Gallery Article by Dirk Adel

Here is my "Saucy Susie' I built last summer. I like those bupple-topped props, but the "Jug" looks of some overweight in comparison to Mustangs and Spits. The kit is of the typical Hasegawa quality. To add some detail I got the airwaves photo etched detail set at a dealer near by. It brings all that detail to the canopy and the engine like seatbelts and ignition cables. Of course the Eduard set would have done the same job.

The model was sprayed with Tamiya AS Bare Metal and TS red cans and sealed with Gunze clear sprays. The decals came with the kit, but I did not take the box art scheme "Angie" but the alternative "Saucy Susie" as my wifes name is Susanne. Unfortunately no PinUp-noseart belongs to this sheme ;-) The black, red and yellow stripes on the tail represent by accident today´s German flag. Other aircraft of the squadron seem to have the stripes in another order: red, black and yellow. Does anybody know the right design?

The helix on the spinner is made using the decal and painting the rest. The eight machine-guns were drilled open. There could be used resin aftermarket products, too.
