One of the lesser
known breakaway states from the former Soviet Union was "Aztekistan".
Following the fall of communism there, the local leaders decided rather than
follow capitalistic, democratic or regional religious concepts for their
country, they would adopt the ways of the ancient Aztecs...sun worship, human
sacrifices and pyramid building, all backed up by some rusty nukes they found
laying about in an old Soviet 1950s era bunker. It was not highly
recommended as a tourist destination.

The faithful SU-25
was chosen as their main Air Force aircraft. Here we see a typical load
out consisting of one standard PTB-800 Fuel Tank, two B-8Mi rocket pods, two
200kg bombs circa 1943 (Hey, Aztekistan is poor, they use whatever they find
laying around! You should see when they used to drop goats from pylons 3 and 5!)
and a 15 Kiloton Nuclear Device, of unknown reliability. This plane is from
their most famous squadron, the Quetzalcoatl Squadron (A flying Feathered Snake
worshipped by the ancient Aztecs).
The SU-25s were
often seen in use during the brief and completely inconclusive border dispute
with "Olympislavia", their hated neighboring breakaway state. Both
countries were eventually reabsorbed into Russia in the late 1990s after
suffering complete economic collapse.
The kit used is the
reissue of the Monogram 1/48 SU-25. The kit was built stock from the box, with
weapons added from the kit and the the spares bin, The nuke actually comes from
the 1/48 Monogram/Revell F-84. Decals were custom printed on my trusty but weird
inkjet printer.
