1/48 Revell HS-123A

This is my first kit of the year and it is the Revell boxing of the old ESCI kit.  I thought I would start the year with something different as I don't do biplanes or metal finishes as a rule.  The kit is poorly detailed and pretty simple to assemble.  I scratch built a new cockpit and rescribed a few panel lines, the guns have also been drilled out.

The kit supplied engine is fairly good, gun metal a good dry brushing was all it needed. I sprayed the kit with Humbrol silver( no11) and sealed it under a coat of Klear, decals for the Spanish air force went on without any trouble and make it a attractive alternative to the German version.  Pastels and an oil wash were used to give a gently weathered look and to break up the solid silver colour airframe, I did not seal them behind a coat of varnish because I liked the sheen the Klear gave, the kit sits in its own little display case so I will not need to handle it again.

I liked building this kit and I am glad I choose a metal finish, I have the Monogram B-36 on my to do list this year and would welcome any ideas on what types of metal paints I would need.

Cheers
