20th Anniversary of "Operation Desert Storm"

58th Tactical Fighter Squadron
Operation Desert Storm
Iraqi MiG-23 Kill

This is the 1/48th Academy F-15C Eagle built in the markings of the 58th Tactical Fighter Squadron, and tail number 85-0104, which was part of the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Eglin AFB on Florida’s panhandle. I built it as a surprise gift for Colonel Anthony "KIMO" Schiavi, as he scored a Iraqi MiG-23 kill on 26 January 1991. Over the years, KIMO has become a good family friend, and was the pilot for my F-15B flight in July 2006. I was quite surprised when I asked him one day if he had a model of his jet from Desert Storm, and he said no.

I have a few Academy F-15C builds here on ARC, and they go into more detail about the building process and kit. For the specific markings, I used Repliscale's F-15 Desert Storm sheet, and it had KIMO's exact jet and markings on it.

I made a display base using a cut stair step from Home Depot and added a tarmac, 58th TFS patch, green kill star and engraved plaque. I have enclosed a photo of when I presented it to KIMO in January 2010.
