Hi Everyone,
Merry Christmas, Compliments of
the season and Happy New Year 2012 from tropical Singapore!!
I am sure that you have seen
several submissions of the giant Revell A380 model and here is my submission
done in the livery of the first launch customer of the A380: Singapore
Airlines and it represents the the first commercial flight of the A380 for
Singapore Airlines (and in the world), as 9V-SKA, began its first flight on 25
Oct 2007 after months of delays from the Airbus production facilities. I have
heard from unconfirmed sources within Singapore Airlines that Airbus Industrie
had to compensate the airline for the delay in the form of heavily reduced
purchase prices of their Airbus A330s currently in service with the
airline......

The Revell kit is of superb
quality, detail and a monster compared with other jet airliners produced and
as I looked at the wing and fuselage halves, I knew I had to prepare for more
bottles of paint to airbrush the wings and tailplane. Construction of the kit
went smoothly with CA glue with some challenges at the landing gear section.
Lots of Tamiya masking tape was used to mask the corrogard panels on the top
of the wings. The cabin windows provided in the kit had to be filled with
putty in order for the cabin window decals and the Singapore Airlines livery
to be applied seamlessly on the double-decked fuselage. Decals used were Two
Six decals purchased from the UK: http://www.twosixdecals.co.uk/epages/62035508.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62035508/Products/144-380
and carefully applied
with lots of reference to pictures of the actual aircraft from airliners.net.
The Two-six decals are wonderful, accurately produced and went on smoothly
onto the kit ..highly recommended.
Spray painting the kit took
longer than usual as the 144th scale A380 is a large plane! Once the
decals were applied, the landing gear was attached and the model was
epoxied to a custom made wooden stand and top coated with Tamiya Super
Gloss cote to protect the paintwork and the decals. Once the top coat
was dried, the model was epoxied mounted onto the showcase.
Hope you enjoy my artwork
and the pics!
Best Regards,
David C S Teo
