Nakajima Ki-84 “Hayate” (Frank)
200th Hiko Sentai based at Tanza Airfield, Negros Island, Philippines
October 1944

It’s been a while since I last posted here in ARC and am glad to be back. Built straight OOB. Model was painted with Mr. Color lacquer paints. The “hinomarus” and warning bands were all masked and painted. Applied subtle weathering using oils and chipping methods. The only decals I used were the tail numbers and the “Akeno” emblem which I scrounged in my spares.

The model depicts an aircraft with the 200th Hiko Sentai when it was sent to the Philippines in late 1944.  The unit was formed in Akeno with flight instructors as its core pilots.  It was a six (6) Chutai flight regiment (usual is 3 or 4) and were equipped with Ki-84 Hayates.  One distinct look of the 200th was their use of medium or large numbers and the Akeno flight symbol on the tail of their aircraft.

Overall it was fun and historical build for me and it came at a time when I recently ascertained the exact location of Tanza Airfield.

Happy Modeling!
