  Belgium Independence Day

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the reconstitution of 8 Sqn and the introduction of the Mirage V in the Belgian Air Force, the BA 08 received a special painting during the spring of 1990. The aircraft was painted in a blue and white striping with a large number 8 on the underside. Unfortunately, in 1991, 8 Sqn was send to the Gulf and the aircraft was repainted in its normal camocolors for a possible deployment to Diyarbakir.

The kit is the Heller Mirage III and also includes parts to build a Mirage V. Decals and paint came from DACO, the specialist in Belgian subjects. Two sheets are supplied and I needed both to get a decent white. Lots of setting solution was needed to make the decals sit tight.

I decided to make an in flight model to show the nice lines of the aircraft. The base was made out of a piece of MDF, cut and formed to shape. The emblem of the unit was printed on a piece of paper and glued to the base. A steel rod was inserted in a hole drilled in the back of the base and one in the exhaust of the aircraft.
