The
Supermarine S6B was the winner of the last Schneider Trophy in 1931. It was
powered by 2300hp RollsRoyce R engine and achieved top
speed of 547 km/h.
This
kit was produced as many other former Frog kits by some obscure Soviet toy
company. It was packed in soft box
with terrible artwork, without type of aircraft mentioned anywhere in packing,
with parts moulded in yellow plastic with lots of flash and with unusable
decals. I bought it in one private sale for $1
and took it as a one weekend project. The fit was not as bad as I suspected, the
most complicated part was attaching engine cover in front of windshield, that
needed lot of filling and sanding. Kit
was brush painted with Aeromaster acrylic blue and Revell enamel silver, red and
white. Serial number was printed using laser printer on clear decal film, No. I
was cut from solid white decal. Rigging was done with stretched sprue. For
glosscoating I used Future. No weathering – of course.
