1/48 Hobbycraft FB11 Sea Fury

--------------------

This is my Hobbycraft 1/48 FB 11 “ Bay of Pigs ”  Sea Fury.  The kit was pretty much built straight out of the box, with the exception of the 20mm cannon barrels in the wings which were made from brass tubing.  The overall detail and fit of the parts was good, with the exception of the upper landing gear strut cover, which had no tab or corresponding slot in the wing to glue the cover into.  The instructions were poor and provided no information for painting the interior.  I used the kit decals, which were not of very good quality.  The underwing rockets were very well done and really give the model that menacing look.

I used Model Master Euro I Dark Green for the base color which was airbrushed on using my Badger 200 Airbrush.  Some light weathering was done to the model.  An acrylic wash using Polly S Night Black was applied to the wheel hubs, landing gear struts, inside of the landing gear doors, and the gear bays.  Paint chipping was done by applying Testors Silver with a small brush and using a silver artist pencil.  The exhaust stains were achieved by drybrushing Model Master Burnt Umber followed by a light drybrushing of Gunze Sangyo Soot inside the Burnt Umber.

The model depicts FAR 42 of the Cuban Revolutionary Air Force during the Bay of Pigs invasion in April 1961.

Happy Modeling!
