This is my 1/48 Airfix "Hawk" flown by famous Royal Air Force Aerobatic team The Red Arrows.

History

The Hawk first flew on 21st August 1974, its test pilot was Duncan Simpson, The BAE Hawk was originally designed as a trainer. Since then there have been several variants, including a ground attack and single seater configuration. The aircraft has been a success story for the British Aerospace industry has been exported around the world. The Hawk is currently used by the RAF as a trainer, and is also the chosen aircraft of the Red Arrows display team.  With a top speed of 560kt (1038 km/h, 645 mph) and the ability to be armed with one optional centerline 30mm ADEN cannon or up to 3000kg of ordnance including cluster bombs and AIM-9s, it is a potent aircraft.

Since 2001,they have been based at RAF Fairford,RAF Kemble & RAF Cranwell.  The Red Arrows have always flown whichever aircraft in service, as the RAFs` advanced fast jet trainer, currently the BAe systems Hawk T Mk. from 1965 until 1979, they flew the Folland Gnats the Hawks` predecessor.

MODEL

This model was very easy & straight forward to build.  I had misplaced the instructions, so was in a fix, but I went ahead and made this model & also decaled it only with minor screw ups, but Thanks to Humbrol (Airfix) they fulfilled my wishes by sending me a new instruction sheet so I could complete my model.  Thanks to them once more.

Only that its plastic was very hard, Airfix gave two options i.e either to have flaps down or up, I chose to keep them in a lowered position but unfortunately as the plastic was hard I could not do so, anyway.  The model was painted full Red i.e Humbrol # Gloss 19 was used.

For decals I used Humbrol "Decalfix" it worked well on the decals they adhered properly to the model.  I would recommend it if you are making a model by Airfix.  Airfix had given aircraft registration numbers of about 12 aircraft I randomly chose XX266.  I hope you appreciate my model.
