1/48 Hobby Craft FG-1D Corsair

--------------------

This very unusual Corsair served with the El Salvador Air Force in 1961. Some Corsairs used during the 1969 "Soccer War" were painted light gray, but I have found one black & white photo that suggests an unpainted appearance on these earlier aircraft. I built this one for a customer, and this is the desired scheme. I think it looks very attractive on a Corsair.

The kit was built out of the box, with the exception of Eduard photoetched belts. The Hobby Craft kit looks every bit the Corsair on the outside, but the cockpit is simplified. I would use a resin replacement if I were building this one for myself.

The airframe was painted with various shades of Alcad II metallics. The kit decals were unusable (they fractured in water), so I masked and painted them instead. There are no decals on this build.

An unpainted Corsair is a refreshing alternative to the blue schemes, in my opinion. It certainly isn't "low visibility!"
