This is
Tamiya's P-47D built as Lt. Robert E. Ward's P-47D-30-RA 'Ole
Trapper IV' of the 367th FS, 358th FG.
I improved the
cockpit by adding a few more details including the oxygen hose which
Tamiya missed. The frame in front of the instrument panel was added to
more correctly fill up the area below the windscreen.
The instrument
dials are from the kit decal sheet individually punched
out and applied. The seat belts are pre-painted Eduard items, lightly over
painted.

The engine had
ignition wires added as well the propeller governor. Notice that I left
off the Pratt & Whitney logo, these were the VW badges of their day
and quite often went 'missing', belt buckle anyone?
After gluing
the ends on the M-10 rocket launchers on, the forward ends were drilled out
to give them some depth. The gun blast tubes were also drilled out and had
drilled out plastic rod inserted to simulate the ends of the machine guns,
though this is quite hard to see on the finished aircraft. Wire was used
to simulate the brake lines on the undercarriage legs and the main wheels
are from Ultracast.
The aircraft is
painted in Alclad shade A with some panels picked out in C, over a coat of
Humbrol gloss grey enamel. The other paints used were also from Humbrol. After
an oil wash of dark grey and the application of the Eagle Strike decals, Model
Air satin was sprayed over the orange tail, the red cowling and the decals.
The
anti-glare panel then received a light coat of Model Air matt to complete
another P-47 in my collection.
