1/48 Tamiya He 162 Volksjaeger

At the end of the war when things were not going well for the Germans, the RLM decided that what the Luftwaffe needed was a new jet fighter.  A fighter that was easy to build needed little maintenance, and could be built in such numbers that if an airplane fell out of disrepair it would be thrown out.   The answer was the He 162.  The idea was that it would be flown by the Hitler youth,  kids with only a few hours of flight experience.

This was my first airplane model after about a year of building armor models.  Tamiya’s kit went together very well with only a little bit of filler in the nose.  I chose to add the Eduard Zoom kit, something I will not do in the future, I felt that the detail was to flat.  The markings out of the box were somewhat uninspiring, but I chose Oberleutnent Emile Demuth’s airplane of 3/JG1.
