RF-4B kits seem to be ubiquitous in hobby shops every where I go. I buy
them if they are on sale because I want to build "C" models and
as common as the B's are the C's are just as rare, in fact I have never
even seen one in real life! No worries since you can build a C with just
a little extra care. Instead of building another C however, I decided to
build a B... Why Not?? I went with the all black scheme since it seemed
exotic and the decals seemed minimal.
I used a Black Box pit and Eduard
Masks. I also used some styrene to build up the canopy sills; there
really is nothing worse that those phlimsy phantom canopies. In real life
I would not want those huge things coming down on my hand for sure. I was
not too impressed with the BB resin, but for $19 US it is a bargain.
The
Eduard Masks are worth every penny, and as long as I can find them on
Sprue Bros.
I will never go without them again!

I
intended to take the photos outside per usual, but it was so windy that my
little Recce Phantom might have taken off! I love these kits, and in the
future I will be using either the new Steel Beach FOD covers or some
nicely molded Seamless Suckers. If I can save all my pennies I will also
be purchasing Aries insanely expensive detailing kit that includes the
photo bay, the cans, and cockpit. Of course I will be doing another
Nebraska Phantom. Hey decal makers, these are good birds, look 'em up and
make a sheet!?
Happy
Modeling!
