1/48 Revell Eurofighter Typhoon

My first post for a while as 2008 has been a busy year work wise. I wanted to do something quick without a lot of work and when browsing in a model shop I found this. The kit has had a lot written about it, as has the Eurofighter, so even though I have both the Italeri ones in the stash I bought it and got onto it quite quickly.

Following discussions on the ARC forum I decided to go straight from the box. This suited me but also reveals the quality of the kit. I actually have 2 resin seats I bought for the Italeri kits but decided the Revell kit seat was better! Not often you say that. I did lean the seat back as its either too big or doesn't fit round the control column. I bought a small book on the Eurofighter and it came with a set of paint masks, so although I would not have bought them I did use them and they saved 10 mins.

I used no filler at all on the model and it fitted together beautifully.

Most of the paint scheme was Gunze "Barley Grey" but with a bit of fading and shading to break up the plain finish. The Radome and fin tip were done with "Dark Grey" and interiors for wheel wells were "light Grey". Gunze metalics were used for the engine area. Decals were a mixture of the kit ones and Model Alliance which all went on well over Future. I kept the wash to a limited amount as these don't have too many visible panel lines and generally seem quite clean.

Photographing it was quite hard as the white balance seemed unable to cope with the grey and it looks different with white, black or grey backgrounds. I've posted all 3 so take your pic what colour you think it actually is as they are all the same model.

I didn't use any of the extensive weapons supplied as I keep knocking them off when I move. As kits go this is superb and gets my vote as one of the best kits of all time. The only let down was the numbering on the otherwise comprehensive decal sheet, poor colour references and the fit of the seat.

Thanks to Bobski for his invaluable comments on the forums.
