This
model started with the old Monogram 1/48 T-6 that I found on ebay.
This project was meant to practice with a number of familiar and
unfamiliar techniques and materials. Added
were the engine from the Italeri (old Ocidental
kit reborn),
Eduard
T-6 PE set, Squadron vac canopy and masks, weighted
True Details main wheels, national insignia from SuperScale,
lettering from Eagle Strike Decals, Hamilton Standard propeller labels from
Archer Fine Transfers, PE machine gun barrel from
a White Ensign Models PT Boat set, aerial connector from Bob’s Buckles, Bare
Metal Foil, and various
Al
clad
paints.

This
airplane was modeled after what is believed to be the last remaining T-6 from
Tuskegee
which was lovingly restored and operated by
Steve Cowell
in Colorado. He restored it exactly as it was at Tuskegee except for painting the fuselage for protection purposes. If you google
“Double Vee” you’ll can learn more about Steve’s plane. Standard
techniques were used to build the model. The only thing I would probably
have done different was use Future as a primer instead of
Al
clad gray primer. The raised rivets on this kit made it difficult to get a
perfect finish with the
Al
clad primer. But at the end of the day it made for an interesting
weathered look so no major complaints. I definitely need to improve my
photo capabilities if I’m going to post more photos. http://www.airportjournals.com/Display.cfm?varID=0507026
Enjoy!
