This is the
F-84G from Tamiya. The model was built mostly OOB with some Eduard PE added to
the cockpit. Tamiya's engineering and fit made this build a pleasure.
After
a couple of wet sanding sessions with 1000 grit paper, I primed the model
with Testors gloss white enamel. After leaving it to dry for a week I applied
some light coats of Alclad Aluminium, left this to dry for 24 hours, masked off
various panels and shot those with Alclad Dark Aluminium. I sealed everything
with a coat of Future to prepare for decals.

Decals are a mix of the
kit's and Cutting edge. I used markings for 8 FBS 'Ricepaddy Ranger'.
Fitting the yellow and black stripes on the tail proved to be a challenge
and required several applications of Polly S solvent and some touching up
with yellow and black paint to get the desired result.
The final touch- the canopy-was a
fairly tedious exercise. First I sanded off the circular device located at the
right rear, polished off the scratches, dipped it in Future, masked the panes
and painted the frames with Alclad. I then carefully attached a photo-etched
version of the circular item (included in the Eduard set) and dipped the
completed canopy in Future one last time to seal everything in. After a coat of
Testors Satin Clear, I attached the bombs, landing gear and the various clear
pieces. There you have it.
