This new decal sheet from Cutting Edge Modelworks includes markings for two different 1/48 F4U-1 Corsairs.

The first aircraft is a F4U-1 Corsair BuNo 02576 flown by 1st Lt. Edwin L. Olander from Munda in October 1943.  This aircraft white 576 "Marine's Dream" with VMF-222.  This aircraft flipped over while attempting an emergency landing on Bougainville and there was a good selection of photos taken of the recovery which was common practice by the Marine Corps of a recovery (the photos are stored in the US National Archives).  The paint scheme for this aircraft is the early two-tone scheme of M-485 Blue Gray (non-specular) over M-495 Light Gray (non-specular).  This aircraft was extremely weathered with much touching up to the paint scheme which the instructions go into.  The nose art appears on the right side of the nose and is a beautiful blonde in a sitting position wearing a white 2 piece bathing suit with dark yellow text below the artwork reading "Marine's Dream".  The artwork for this aircraft has a white decal to go underneath the noseart decal.

The second plane is F4U-1A Corsair BuNo 17965 with VMF-422 by 1st Lt. Stout from Engibi Island ion May 18 1944.  This fighter features a Vargas Cow Girl artwork.  It is unknow if the artwork appeared on both sides of the nose.   The artwork of this aircraft has white decals to go underneath the noseart decal.

The noseart decals are delicate and two are included for each plane in case you mess up the first ones.  Exacting instructions are included on how to prepare and install these decals…..read these instructions carefully to avoid disaster.  Apparently these noseart decals are very thin and need special care, but once installed they will look very accurate and realistic.  The nose art decals are printed on a one piece decal sheet, so you’ll need to cut the decal free from the rest of the decal film…..patience is the key here.  The noseart decal is beautifully printed with fantastic detail and lovely shading.
The instructions are clear and include  views of each aircraft and an extra 3 pages of text instructions and one of line drawing showing decal placement is included with a small bit of info about both the planes as well as helpful tips for decal application.

A very nice decal sheet and  sure to please the lucky 300 people that manage to buy one of these limited edition sheets.
