four different Me-109's. This is Part 1 of a series dealing with the
Me-109 in Luftwaffe markings from the December 1939 in Germany to December
1943. The
first plane is a Me-109 E-1, Yellow 5, flown by Feldwebel Hans Troitzsch,
6/JG77, Wangerooge/Germany in December 1939. This aircraft is in the
early war scheme and has Penguin artwork on the tail rudder. The second plane is a
Me-109 F-4, flown by Hptm. Helmut Mertens, Staffelkapitan with 1/JG3 near
Stalingrad at the end of July 1942. This aircraft is unique because
if it's 3 digit number "111" on the fuselage. This is
probably the only case that an operational aircraft carried a 3 digit
number. This aircraft has a yellow wing tips, yellow panels under
the nose and a theatre band on the rear fuselage. There are 2 crests
on the side of the fuselage by the cockpit and quite a few kill markings
on the tail. The third plane is a Me-109
G-2, White 1, flown by Hptm. Wolfdieter Huy, Staffelpkaiptan 1/JG 77 from
somewhere during transfer from Russia to North Africaon October 25 1942. This aircraft has a huge
number of kill markings on the tail including ships. This aircraft has
white north African theatre bands and a white wing tips and prop
spinner. The paint scheme is 2 tone green from the Russian
front. The fourth plane is a
Me-109 G-6, flown by Hptm. Karl Rammelt, Kdr II/JG51, in Nisch/
Serbia in December 1943. This aircraft has a grey theatre band and a
yellow rudder, yellow panels under the nose cowling. The side of the
fuselage is mottled with upper caom of green and brown and a green prop
spinner. |
