1/144 Minicraft Douglas C-54 - USAF WWII

Gallery Article by José Alvarez on May 17 2011

Hello Steve and fellow modelers, here is my 1/144 Minicraft Douglas C-54.  After a while in my workshop I finally decided to finish this gem with the WWII 1944 USAF livery, so while I was looking for some information related to the DC-4 I found this very attractive scheme.  Immediately I began with to work on my own decals on the Illustrator.  I think the pictures speak for them selves.

I'm including a picture of the real thing so you can compare with the 1/144 model. I have added some details from scratch like the antennas and aerials.  For example the nail-shape antennas on the top are made from a couple of an old 1/48 F-20´s Pitot tubes.  Of course these had to be reshaped to fit with the scale.  Decals are custom home made and the tiny shine on windows is a drop of Future on each one.  Leading edges on wings are painted with Revell´s Anthracite.  I painted the model with the Model Master Light Gray for the lowers and the upper surfaces are painted with Humbrol 86 lowered with some drops of white.  I pre-shaded the model and accentuated the panel lines with drawers ink.  Model is finished with Pebeo´s Matte Lacquer.

Hope you like it and enjoy the pictures.

Happy modeling to you all and see you soon.
