ANZAC Day 2011

Dear Friends,

I would like to share my recent project – AMTech 1/48 Curtiss P-40E made as a Kitthyawk Mk.I, A29-34 “Tojo’s Jinx” from 76 Sqn. RAAF, Milne Bay, New Guinea, 1942. This is my successive model made as a RAAF aircraft. I was trying to finish her just for ANZAC Day, to commemorate war effort of RAAF and RNZAF pilots during World War II.

The kit has Hasegawa landing gear (AMTech parts are not good representation of the real ones), Eduard resin wheels, and Eduard PE seat. I used Eduard PE parts to finish the cockpit too. I used Tally Ho decals to finish my Kittyhawk as a “Tojos’ Jinx”. I used Humbrol, Model Master and Vallejo Model Color paints.

My small collection of RAAF fighters came into existence owing to my friendly Australian connections. I’ve spent a four-week trip to Queensland in 1997, and beside the other places I had a chance to visit The Becks’ Museum in Mareeba. I was under a big impression to see their aviation collection, so I begun to make Oz models. This year I’ve got their cap, which I proudly wear, together with my modelers' society (pwm.org.pl) T-shirt.

During my reference researches I had a great pleasure to make an internet acquaintance with Phil from IPMS Queensland, who was my guru, the best source of knowledge, great support during my modeling and, above all, became a close friend. I hope I can say it, although we’ve never met personally.

The kangaroo figure was specially done by my friend Jacek “The Knife” for this display.

This display is to pay my homage to all RAAF and RNZAF pilots fought during the WWII.
