1/35 Bell UH-1H Iroquois (Huey) “Bushranger"

Gallery Article by Greg Moss on Sept 8 2011

This is the 1/35 UH-1H Dragon kit. It was mainly built OOB with the exception of some weaponry from the MRC Huey Frog kit and a couple of scratch-built bits and pieces. Decals are from “Hawkeye”.

It has been airbrushed with Gunze Acrylics and weathered with silver pencil and chalk pastels.

My Dad was a door gunner on this particular Bushranger (A2-377) during the Vietnam War.

The 'Bushranger' was a UH-1H equipped with a modified XM-21 armament sub-system of two rocket pods each holding seven 2.75 rockets; two mini guns, each capable of firing 4,800 rounds per minute; and two M60 machine guns, handled by door-gunners. The armament sub-system could be removed in 3 hours to convert the Bushranger gunship to a troop carrying utility (“slick”) if additional troop lift capacity was required for operation.
