Malaysia National Day

This model depicts the F-27 in the service of Malaysia Singapore Airlines. For a short period it continued to carry this livery even after Singapore had separated from Malaysia.

The routes it covered were local flights to the majority of States around the peninsular that had a suitable landing strip.

This aircraft is still in service with many airlines around the world and is considered as one of the best passenger turbo prop engine airliners that came after World War 2.
We now operate with newer versions like the F-50 and F-60

The kit is from ESCI in 1/72nd scale. It’s out of production and you may still find it on E-Bay. It comes with a full interior.

The overall fit is not bad and the plastic is easy to sand. A little filler was used in the engine cowlings to the wing fairings. The usual odd flash here and there received sanding down.

To use the kits clear windows, the markings were applied first and the windows stuck on. After the fuselage halves were sealed the joints were filled, sanded down and painted after masking over the markings and windows was applied.

Lots of lead was added to the nose compartment as this was a tail heavy kit. Although it looks accurate, there are some minor inaccuracies like the tail, engine nacelles and nose that only a trained eye can spot. Other than that it’s a good kit to build and I would recommend it to anyone who wants one of aviations best selling twin turbo prop commercial aircraft in their stable.

Happy Merdeka Day 2011
