This is
the 1/48 AMT A-10A kit. I haven't seen many of these kits built, and its
easy to see why. The cockpit is bare and inaccurate, the shape is off, and
the fit is pretty bad. With some spare parts and some effort though, it
can be made into a decent model.

I
usually rescribe kits that come with raised panel lines, but I wanted this to be
a quick build so I skipped that part. The cockpit was pretty bare, and
there was little I could do about that, but I replaced the toy like ejection
seat with a True Details piece. The kit came with a one piece canopy, so I
cut off the forward section and discarded the rest. I replaced the main
canopy with a spare Monogram canopy, which helped out a lot. I couldn't
use the forward section of the Monogram canopy since it wouldn't blend into the
AMT fuselage properly.
The decals were a
mix of Microscale, CAM and Tamiya A-10 decals. The loadout is inaccurate,
but I wanted a fully loaded look on this A-10. The centerline tank,
ALQ-119, and AGM-65s came from the Monogram kit. The AIM-9s were from the
spare box and the DRA was scratchbuilt. Considering the kit I started
with, this A-10 came out a lot better than I had originally hoped.
