1/32 Revell F4U Corsair

About a year before Trumpeter released it's Corsair, I took on the old Revell kit.  It is a basically sound model but it lacks the finesse of newer kits, but can be made into a good replica.

I re-scribed the panel lines and added an after market resin cockpit from Verlinden which has an incredible level of detail.

I also replaced the engine with a resin one from Teknics.  Another after market resin set provided undercarriage bays and flaps (Their name escapes me now.)

Eduard's etch set provided the cowl flaps, and also provided detail for the the wing root intakes.

Decals were from Techmod.

I used Life Color acrylics who's colours match the scheme perfectly.

Washes of raw umber oil paint, dry brushing, and extensive paint chipping simulated the heavily weather appearance of the Corsairs in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

When Trumpeter announced they were releasing a new 32nd kit of the Corsair I initially thought "Typical! Sod's law strikes again!" But ultimately I Enjoyed the build and all the extra work involved.
