Dirk Pitt's means of escape

I am a lurker & poster in ARC (from Australia). This is a photo of a model I made in 2012.

In the Clive Cussler book 'Cyclops' the hero, Dirk Pitt, and three friends, piloted a blimp towards Cuba, but it was shot-down near a secret Russian base on a small island. They salvaged some equipment and reached the island, but all four were captured, locked-up, and beaten-up by the baddies. But Dirk managed to escape his cell and leave the island by mating his salvaged outboard motor to an old bathtub he found. Just as he ran out of fuel, he was picked-up by a US Navy submarine.

For the heck of it, I built the bathtub/boat. I used a 1/35-scale resin bathtub and added all of the elements from the book - 2 x fuel cans, a rag stuffed into the drain-hole, a funnel fashioned from a piece of bent sheet-metal, and a plank of wood as a transom. I scratch-built the outboard motor from various bits of plastic, and a picture of a 4 horse-power outboard motor that I reduced to fit the bathtub. The hardest part was the propeller that I scratch-built from thin metal foil.

Enjoy the photos.
