1/32 Hasegawa Sabre Mk.5

One nice shiny Canadair Sabre Mk.5 today. Its the Hasegawa 1/32 kit. This is one old kit, the box art " looks" like it might be from the 60s or early 70s. The kit decals sheet certainly was. To make this kit a tad more accurate I added a resin ejection seat. The kit one is not even close. I had a resin wing tip from an earlier build. So I cut off the wing tip extensions and glued the resin in place. Closed the flaps and added two flat PE parts that are shaped like wing fences.

Next I wanted a paint scheme that was distinctive. Leading Edge decals did a lovely sheet a couple years back for 401 and 438 squadron in Quebec back in the 50s. However that sheet was NOT made in 1/32. So using spare decals (mostly Leading Edge) I was able to cobble together what I needed using the Leading Edge 1/48 instructions as a guide. The last part to the puzzle was the coloured Rams heads from 401 squadron. Lucky for me Canmilair produced a couple Rams heads for me last year. It was a good thing I ordered these when I did as Canmilair is no longer in the model decal business.

Next kit might just be a 401 squadron T-bird of the same era. I wanted to do 401 as they were recently reactivated at CFB Cold Lake, flying our near 40 year old CF-18s.
