This aircraft flew
with the 512th Fighter squadron, 406th fighter group. In late 1944, most of the
Thunderbolts flew without camouflage in natural metal finish. "Angie"
carried only invasion stripes on the bottom of fuselage; The 406FG's machines
were characterized by all-black empennages with stripes in individual squadron
colors on vertical surfaces. The pilot of this aircraft remains unknown.
