Hasegawa’s
F-86F-40 is one of the best 1/48 scale renditions of this aircraft out there,
however the kit suffers a bit in the cockpit area – particularly the ejection
seat which is very basic. I improved this area by installing a True
Details resin cockpit set, which required a bit of sanding and test fitting to
get it in place

Other minor improvements made,
were the thinning of the trailing edges of the wings, elevators and rudder, as
well as the exhaust.
PAINTING AND DECALING
The centre panels of the wings
were painted with a mixture of Testors White and Silver and this was allowed to
dry for a week. These areas were then masked off and the rest of the model
finished with Testors Metalizer – Aluminium, Steel and Burnt Metal, and sealed
with Metalizer Sealer.
The kit decals for the 6th
SQ 8th AW were used and although a bit thick, went on without any
problems. Panel lines were then accentuated with a dark grey acrylic wash
and light weathering was done with pastels and a damp paint brush. Final
sealing was done with Future.
