1/48 Shanghai Dragon Ju 88C-6

I built Shanghai Dragon's Ju 88C-6 kit using Eduard's photoetched detail set. The markings came from the box.

The photoetched parts add some very fine detail to this kit. I added wiring and hoses from fine wire and micro solder. When I saw a photo of some German radio equipment, I couldn't resist adding the headphones that I saw.

This heavily-armed fighter variant was feared on the Eastern Front, while the glass-nosed bomber was easy prey. Some heavy fighters were disguised by painting a false glass nose on the aircraft. This build represents that version.

After painting the splinter camouflage scheme of RLM 70 and 71 over 65, I scanned the decals. I printed these, and used them as templates for drafting tape masks. Once these were in place, I sprayed the white winter camouflage. I wanted it to look as though the ground crew sprayed around the markings, and this allowed me to do it without putting masks on decals that have already been applied.

The fuselage band was masked and sprayed RLM 04. The kit decal's color looked oddly light, and I rarely trust the fit of them.

I had a blast building my "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing."
