1/48 Revell F/A 18C

Hello again everyone.  Just wanted to share some photos of my F-18 Hornet experiment.  I always wanted to try a build a Hornet that looked very operational and heavily weathered.  The Revell kit was perfect for this as it is inexpensive but still has some level of detail to it.  I figured if I screwed it up I wasn't out anything.  Built OOB with the addition of an ejection seat, AGM-84 Harpoon, Harm AGM-88 from Verlinden.  The extra fuel tanks came from an old Esci kit, but I don't think they are correct for the Hornet.

The Revell kit is not a bad kit to assemble if you take your time.  The cockpit and gear and wheel wells are nicely detailed.

Like I said, this was a weathering experiment I wanted to try and had a lot of fun and enjoyment in the process.  I used MM and Tamyia acrylics to get the desired weathering effect and finished it up with pastels.  I took various greys and mixed them with white at various ratios to get the desired effect.  I know the CAG's a/c is usually clean to some extent, but that wasn't my objective.

After viewing lots of picture's from my references, there's not one Hornet that is weathered the same, and
I think that's why I had fun with this project.  I could continue to add more weathering if I wanted too and it would still look operational.  I didn't have to worry about anything being exact.  Thanks for looking, happy modeling.

Brian
