This is my
second big scale Revell F-14. I love this kit, people complain about the seams
on the nose to fuselage joint, but I have been pretty lucky. I found a trick
that helps. I cut 1 inch lengths of .015 x .015 styrene and attach them to the
fuselage side of the joint with CA. The strips create a guide post for the nose
to slide on, and it forces the plastic on the nose to push out abit creating a
much better seam with almost no step.

Paint was done using MM
flat gull grey with MM gloss black on the tails and ventral fins and MM
flat black on the skunk stripe. Weathering was done with pastel chalk
ground into a powder and mixed two parts water to one part powder. I left
the weathering solution dry over night to make sure I got a good base.
Then, with a paper towel and a few Q-tips wiped it in the direction of
airflow. Then, I followed it up with Tamiya Weathering Master Set B
"soot". The helmets were spares from a couple 1:32nd scale
Hasegawa kits in the stash. The instrument panel cowlings were covered
with kleenex tissue and then painted brown to provide a canvas appearance.
The markings are from CAM Decals sheet. I am not sure if it was because
this sheet had been in my stash for awhile or just because they were from
CAMs older line, but I found these much thicker than previous sheets.
Still, they fell into the panel lines nicely with a couple coats of
MicroSol
This is my fourth
build completed in the month of July....I am whooped! Off to play some Rock Band
now.
