Product # 48-231 for $14.00

Product Article by Steve Bamford on Aug 17 2011

This new release from Twobobs celebrates the Centennial of Naval Aviation with heritage markings for two F/A-18C aircraft from the River Rattlers of VFA-204 and the Dust Devils of VX-31.  There is also a bonus set of markings of an A-4C from VX-31.  Full set of markings for all three aircraft are included on this sheet.

Each of the Twobobs Centennial products feature a 3" pressure sensitive sticker of the official logo of the Centennial of Naval Aviation, which is perfect for a diorama base for your model.

Twobobs has worked directly with the US Navy as a licensed provider of decal markings to celebrate this historic event and was the first decal manufacturer to receive a licensing agreement with the US Navy!

The aircraft include the following:

  • F/A-18C, BuNo 165210 with VX-31 Dust Devils from NAS China Lake in February 2011.  The paint scheme is light gray overall with orange areas (underside of nose, tails and wing tips) and white underside.  This aircraft also has the Centennial of Naval Aviation artwork painted on the side of the fuselage (this is the same as the patch that is included with this decal sheet).

  • F/A-18C, BuNo 162866 with VFA-204 River Rattlers from NASJRB Fort Worth in February 2011.  The paint scheme is Dark blue overall blue with an orange panel on the top and bottom on the fuselage.

  • A-4C, BuNo 147781 with VX-31.  The paint scheme is light gray overall with orange areas (behind nose cone, tail and wing tips) and white underside.

The instructions are clear and include 4 views of each aircraft and include small walkaround photos of the two Hornets featured on this decal sheet.  The decals are beautifully printed on 1 decal sheet and 2 insert decal sheets.  Paint codes are called out in FS #'s, Testors MM, Humbrol, Gunze Sangyo and Xtracrylics.

It's good to see these particular markings, I have always been attracted to the gray aircraft with the orange areas and the 3 aircraft on this decal sheet feature 2 of these which is a big hit with me and the blue Hornet also has orange panels making this sheet a home run in its appeal to me.  I am quite enjoying seeing all these Centennial of Naval Aviation aircraft being released from Twobobs in decal form.

I would like to thank Twobobs for this review sample.

This sheet is available through the Twobobs website and select US Hobby Shops.  Overseas customers can purchase these from Twobobs site or through Twobobs network of overseas distributors.
