This latest release
from Aerobonus is
a pair of
1/48 R-60 (AA-8 Aphid) air-to-air missiles. This is a light
weight air-to-air missile used by the Russian bloc and was sold to a variety of
countries that use Russian weapons systems. These infrared missiles were
used on the MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-25, MiG-29, Su-17, Su-24 and Su-25.

The quality of the resin casting is
flawless and bubble free. You get 2 missile bodies, 20 fins (8 per
missile....they are small...you get extras) plus stencil markings for both
missiles. The larger tail fins are already attached to the missile bodies
and it is only the 8 smaller more delicate nose fins that you need to attach to
the missile. Yes there are 2 rows of nose fins.....one set is a canard
type of fin and the other is a larger guidance type of fin.
The instruction sheets assist you
with assembly, painting and stencil placement. You do not get a clear
seeker head for the tip of the missile and instead you are supposed to paint the
tip of the resin missile a smoked colour. The missile body is white, so I
would assume once you painted the missile body and seeker tip white, you could
then mask and paint the white seeker tip with smoked clear to get the desired
look.
These resin
missiles from Aerobonus
give you the option to use the R-60 (AA-8 Aphid) air-to-air missiles on your
next Russian built aircraft. These are very nicely done missiles with a
very pleasing level of detail
You can purchase this and other
fine resin detail items directly from Aerobonus
or from the many retailers that carry their products.
I would like to
thank Aerobonus for
providing me with this review sample.
