This is Caracal Models second F-15C Eagle sheet, right on the heels of its first, 48021. Like the first, it covers 2 Air National Guard units - the 173rd Fighter Wing from Klamath Falls, Oregon, which is the only F-15C initial and conversion training unit in the USAF, and the 104th Fighter Wing from Westfield, Massachusetts. Like its sister unit at Portland, the 173rd FW has had very little F-15 decal coverage though being a fairly long time Eagle operator. The 104th FW, which has had Eagles for only a few years after converting from A-10 Warthogs due to a major 2005 USAF shakeup, has had none in 48th scale. The 104th FW has taken over the air defense duties of the northeast USA from the former 102nd FW on Cape Cod.

The sheet is silk screen printed professionally by Cartograf in Italy, and has excellent color and coverage. Attention to detail is evident.

There are options for 3 jets, and stencils for 2 jets on 1 large and 1 small decal sheet:

  • F-15C 78-0547, 173FW, Oregon ANG (commander's aircraft)

  • F-15C 79-0076, 173FW, Oregon ANG

  • F-15C 85-0118, 104FW, Massachusetts ANG

The new tail markings for 78-0547 are reminiscent of the unit's F-4 Phantom days.

In addition to 2 full sets of stencils, 2 different color styles of refueling-door markings are included, as well as various lighter grey panel decals which eliminates masking and painting those panel sections.

Overall, an excellent and accurate sheet that is welcomed.

Thanks to Kursad at Caracal Models for providing me with this product sample.
