Mohammad Adl gets things started with his latest masterpiece.  Mohammad did an excellent job on his 1/32 Revell EC 145 Medstar.  The doors are open to show off all the wonderful detail in this Air Ambulance.  Enjoy the photos, this one is a beauty.

Rafi Ben-Shahar has built not one but two of the 1/48 Kinetic Fouga Magister.  Rafi chose two very different Israeli scheme with just the right amount of weathering to get these gems looking perfect.  I always enjoy seeing Rafi's latest model on ARC.

Jan Mikes is here with something very different and exciting.  This is Jan's 1/48 Italeri EFA-2100 Typhoon III wearing a what-if Czech Air Force splinter scheme.  Jan did some extra detailing and then gave his shark mouth Typhoon a weathering job for added realism.  I love the look of this Typhoon.

Gianni Chirico is here from Italy with his 1/72 Italeri Junkers Ju.87 B-2/R-2 Stuka.  Gianni chose a North African desert camo scheme, which is quite the complicated scheme.  But no doubt about it.....this Stuka is wearing a very attractive camo scheme.

Carlos Vargas jouns us from warm Venezuela with his fantastic looking 1/48 Revell Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-2/R3.  Carlos is highly skilled at airbrushing and weathering as you will see in his photos.  Carlos chose one of those complicated Luftwaffe camo schemes and did an amazing job on it.  This 110 looks perfect from every angle.

Gene A. "Gene-o" DiGennaro Jr. has done a very cool job on the finish on his 1/48 Hasegawa NASA F-104N.  Gene used a combination of Alclad and bare metal to give his NASA Starfighter an amazing finish.  I think this in-flight display does look quite "zoomy" indeed.

Prokopis Kroustallis did a first class job on his 1/72 Fine Molds Tie Fighter.  Prokopis  used the Fine Molds kit which was a very good choice and then proceeded to build it to a very high quality.  This Tie Fighter is a beauty from every angle.

Uncle Rick Chin is here with one of the Prettiest CF-18's to ever take to the air.  This is Rick's 1/48 Monogram F-18A that he bought partly built from the widow of a modeller that died before his time.  Rick proceeded to finish this Hornet to a very high level.  His article is a gold mine of info.  Rest in Peace Rick.

Harv did a very cool job creating his Monster Jam Black Stallion P-51 Mustang.  The Monster Jam Black Stallion is a Monster truck in the US and this P-51 is finished in markings to match the real life Monster truck.  This P-51 model was presented to the owner of the real Monster Truck.  Very cool Harv!!!

Dragan Cvetic has done a gorgeous job finishing and weathering his 1/72 Italeri MiG-29UB SFRJ Rv I pvo.  Dragan added scratchbuilt seat belts and pitotube and then finished his MiG in Yugoslavian markings to get a very sharp looking jet.

Uncle Rick Chin is here with the second part of his 1/48 Hasegawa F-104C Starfighter build.  Rick got the bare metal finish looking perfect on his Taiwanese Starfighter.  Reading Rick's article brings bad good memories.

Danny Zhao joins us with a very rare plane.  This is his 1/72 Italeri C-47 Skytrain finished in the markings of the Presidential plane for the Republic of China (Taiwan).  Danny added some scratchbuilt details to complete his presidential plane and finished it with a flawless multi-shaded bare metal finish.

Carmel J. Attard joins us from sunny Malta to honour Malta's St. John's Day with his 1/72 Airmodel Mikoyan MiG-21 E8.  This is a very rare and little known prototype version of the MiG-21 complete with a very odd looking intake under the fuselage.  This looks like a challenging project, but Carmel pulled it off in his usual style.

Luxembourg - National Day and
Official Birthday of H.R.H. the Grand Duke Jean
Uncle Rick Chin is here with the first part of his 1/48 Hasegawa F-104C Starfighter article.  Rick built this one when it first came out and his work was to his usual high standard.  Rick finished his Starfighter in a flawless bare metal finish and Taiwanese markings.  Today you get to see the cockpit before it is installed.

Tolga ÜLGÜR joins us from Turkey with his exceptional 1/48 Dragon Junkers Ju-188A2.  Tolga chose an aircraft captured in Belgium in 1944 and the reference photos in his article show this bird with two different wings no doubt from some salvaging of airframes for parts.  Tolga added some aftermarket parts but it is fantastic skill as a modeller that makes it a very special day on ARC when he sends in a model.

Shawn "phantom" Weiler is here from the Dominion of Canada with his 1/48 Classic Airframes CF-116D (F-5B) #5.  Shawn repainted this F-5 in a more colourful scheme using Leading Edge decals for the markings.  The newly refinished model looks darn good on his colourful display base.  Beautiful work Shawn.....I love the paint scheme.

Here's a product article for the 1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX E Wing Cannon Bay Covers from UltracastThis set is designed for the Hasegawa kit.

Friday,  June 20  2014
Uncle Rick Chin loved the Phantom the most and today you can see his 1/48 Hasegawa F-4G's.  Rick built these beauties with Leading Edge decals for the F-4 Idaho ANG.  Rick had a close connection to the Idaho ANG and it is good to see two of his Phantoms in all their glory.

S K Loh has a passion for 1/144 scale and he is here again today with his 1/144 MiniHobby Hawker Tempest V.  S K did plenty of extra work and detailing to get his Tempest to a very high level and it is very difficult to believe this is 1/144 scale.  I love the in-flight scene you created.

Greg Kerry finished his 1/72 Airfix Harrier GR1 to a very high level of finish.  Greg mentions the tricky parts of building the Airfix kit, but as you'll see by his model, a touch of patience gives you an excellent model of this British fighter.  Beautiful work Greg.

Uncle Rick Chin is here with one of his favourite aircraft.  This is his 1/48 Monogram A-10 in Idaho ANG markings for a particular plane that visited Alberta before it was shot down over Iraq.  Rick rescribed the panel lines and . scratchbuilt a bunch of details to get a very accurate Warthog and then finished it with a set of decals he had made and that he sold.

Carlos Escobar did a beautiful job weathering his 1/72 Italeri Bell UH-1B Iroquois.  This is a Honduran military UH-1B and Carlos gave it a suitable base to help highlight the weathering his did.  It all comes together very nicely.

Ignacio Larrañaga joins us from Uruguay with his wonderfully weathered 1/72 Academy F-16C.  Ignacio used pre-shading and other techniques to give each panel a realistic looking faded look.  This F-16 turned out looking super.

Uncle Rick Chin of Uncle Bill's Hobby gets things fired up today with his whimsical Alberta Bomber.  Rick is from the Canadian province of Alberta and Rick has included the full story behind RCAF Arado bomber.  Crafty Canadians.

Jens Gerber put big effort into his 1/48 Revell Me 410 B2/U4.  His Me-410 has the nose cannon making his aircraft a bomber killer.  Jens added an Aires cockpit set and a brass nose cannon before finishing it up with his usual expert weathering job.  I love seeing Jens latest model on ARC.

Shawn "phantom" Weiler has conquered the 1/48 Classic Airframes CF-116D (F-5B) #4.  Shawn used aftermarket decals and chose the very attractive Ghost Scheme for his Freedom Fighter.  I recall Rick Chin started the CA F-5 kit and gave up halfway through due to the poor fit....it was the only kit I know of that Rick did not finish.  So Shawn did good to get this one finished and looking so sweet.

Iceland Anniversary of the Establishment of the Republic

Uncle Rick Chin of Uncle Bill's Hobby is here with his eye catching 1/48 Hasegawa CF-18A.  This particular jet is wearing a colourful scheme for an RCAF Hornet with 433 Squadron.  There is no denying the fact Rick built good looking models.

José Miguel has done a flawless job detailing and weathering his 1/72 Cyber Hobby Grumman F6f-5N Hellcat.  José added Eduard photo etch and scratchbuilt engine detail and then used his high level of skill to weather his fighter with washes.  The finished model looks fantastic.

Dragan Cvetic is here with another of his Yugoslavian jets.  This is his 1/72 R.V. Aircraft MiG-21R built OOB and wearing decals from Balkan Models This is one very sweet looking MiG-21 and the bare metal finish looks perfect.

I'm home from my trip and catching up on everything.  Full updates begin tomorrow.

Uncle Rick Chin did love the A-10 and this is his 1/48 Monogram A-10 in the markings for a jet that was shot down over Baghdad in April of 2003.  The Monogram A-10 kit is an old kit, but that doesn't stop Rick from making it into a beautiful looking model.

United Kingdom - Official Celebration of the
Birthday of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II (1926) (Variable)

End of Falklands/Malvinas War

Friday,  June 13  2014
Uncle Rick Chin was a big fan of the Warthog, so it was only natural he would build the classic 1/48 Monogram A-10 Warthog.  Rick built this A-10 for his A-10 pilot friend and I'm sure he was pleased when Rick presented it to him.

Thang Le is here in style with his winter camo 1/48 Otaki Fw-190 A-8.  This is a classic kit that Thang worked his painting and weathering magic to get  a stunning winter camo 190 for his display case.  I love these winter camo fighters and Thang's work is first class.

Francisco Colaço has created a very detailed and delicate looking 1/48 Eduard Thulin D.  Francisco started with a Morane Saulnier type L that he skillfully converted into a Thulin D in Finnish Air Force markings from1918. This is one very delicate looking monoplane.

Bill Clark did an exceptional job on the 1/48 Aeroclub Multi-Media Kit 'Hawker Hunter T8'.  Bill chose a great looking  paint scheme to finish off this beauty.

Philippines Independence Day

Russia National Day

Uncle Rick Chin starts today with a model I remember well from my local show when Rick flew into town for our show.  This is his 1/48 Monogram CF-101 that Rick repainted for a friend.  Seeing it brings back fond memories of that show.

Erwin Macalalad is here from the Philippines with his first model.  This is his 1/72 Academy Hawker Typhoon Mk 1b with the full weathering of a battle weary Typhoon.  Nicely done Typhoon Erwin and I hope you have a good holiday today.

Joshua Stockdale is here in style with his USMC 1/72 Italeri A-6E Intruder.  This particular Intruder has a partial weapons load as it would have appeared during the Gulf War in '90-'91.  Joshua used pastels and thinned paint to weather this beauty with great effect.  This is one sharp looking Gulf War bomber.

Grant Matthews did an outstanding job on his big 1/32 Revell EC-135.  Grant used different techniques from the ARC Tools n Tips section to get the outstanding finish he was after.  This chopper is the perfect addition to his Scalextric (slot car) track.

Wednesday,   June 11  2014
Uncle Rick Chin went to extra effort on his 1/48 Monogram F-100D.  This is a classic kit so Rick rescribed the panel lines and dropped the flaps to give his Hun the look of a high quality modern kit.  Rick did a beautiful job on this one...check out the cockpit and what he used for the seatbelts.....very creative.

J.C. Bahr has put plenty of time and skill into fixing inaccuracies and adding detail to his 1/72 Italeri P-51.   J.C. details all the work involved and I must admit I was quite impressed with the effort and very thrilled to see how well his early Nustang turned out.  This one is a beaut.

Gianni Chirico joins us from Italy with his stunning looking Dora.  This is his 1/72 Hasegawa Focke-Wulf FW.190 D-9III/JG-54 with a flawless Luftwaffe camo scheme and finished with just the perfect amount of weathering.

Yusof Zakaria has done an amazing job painting and weathering his 1/48 Otaki Corsair.  Many of the markings were painted which is not an easy job and the weathering turned out looking first class.  The USN birds were badly weathered in the tropical sun and this Corsair captures that look excellently.

Portugal National Day

Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia  Army Day

I'm in the Philippines this week to meet with staff for a school I'm helping.  I also plan to spend time with Angel and her family.  Unfortunately my location in the countryside has meant no internet signal the past 3 nights.  I'm now in Boracay where I do have a usable internet signal, so I will be able to do updates for the rest of this week.  I rode a 50cc step through motorbike down some very rough country roads......with amazingly beautiful scenery on the way to visit Angel's family.  It's shaping up to be quite the adventure..

Uncle Rick Chin finishes off his 1/48 Revell F-15E (Part 4).  This was a tremendous result for his OOB build and shows just how sweet this Revell kit is.  Of course had a huge talent for building.

Chuck Holte joins us with his build of the 1/72 Resin Unicraft RQ-4A Global Hawk.  This is a full resin kit and Chuck has some great advice to get the best results.  The finished model turned out looking excellent thanks to Chuck's careful attention to the build process.

Lynn Ritger is an expert when it comes tot he 109 and it is a special treat to read about his Swiss 1/48 Tamiya Bf 109E-3.  Lynn did some special mods to make his 109 an accurate Swiss bird and he explains the whole process in his article.  His 109 is a treat to see.

Robert-Jan Willekens joins us with a very rare Dutch fighter.  This is his 1/48 Classic Airframes Fokker D.XXI.  Robert-Jan captured the look of the  Fokker D.XXI very well and also tells of the operational history during the early days of WW2.  Very nicely done indeed.

Sweden National Day

D-Day - Allied Landings in France in 1944

Uncle Rick Chin gets today fired up in style with 1/48 Revell F-15E (Part 3).  Rick gets his F-15E to the point of being ready for final painting.  It is cool to see a skilled builder like Rick take on such a sweet kit.  Rick was the master of OOB builds to a very high standard.

Alex Sidharta is my friend from Indonesia and it is always a special treat when one of his models appears on ARC.  This latest offering is his 1/72 Tamiya P-47D Thunderbolt in D-Day stripes to honor the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.  Alex built his Jug mostly OOB for a D-Day themed local club gathering and I must say it looks amazing from every angle.

Olivier Barles joins us from France on the 70th Anniversary of D-Day with his 1/32 Trumpeter P-51B.  Olivier chose the markings for the Blue Nose Bastards of the 352 FG and gave his early Mustang full D-Day stripes with an amazing weathering job.  Olivier is a true master modeller and I enjoyed seeing every photo of his D-Day 'stang.

Björn Bäcklund is adding to this update in a very big way to honor the Swedish national Day.  This is his 1/48 Monogram DC-3 finished in the bright orange scheme WW2 neutrality paint. It was used by AB Aerotransport (ABA) and was shot down in 1943...yup ironic a bright neutral aircraft is shot down.  Björn used resin engines for more detail and modified the landing gear.  The markings were masked by hand and the panel lines were redone.  Excellent work Björn.

Björn Bäcklund has created something very special.  This is his model of The wooden mock-up Viggen, 1/72 SAAB 37-0 done with a beautiful metallic finish.  Björn modified the kit to make an accurate model of this very first Viggen and he explains these mods in his article.  I've never heard of the wooden mock up for the Viggen and I'm quite pleased to see a model of it on ARC.

Björn Bäcklund used the 1/48 Revell Junkers Ju52 to create a Swedish Airlines Ju52.  Björn  explains the changes that were made including a different center engine.  It's quite the build and must look excellent next to his Orange DC-3.

Björn Bäcklund has been busy changing details on his 1/72 SAAB Viggen prototype 37-4.  This the 4th Viggen prototype and Björn explains what is needed to convert this kit into the 4th prototype.  It's a very interesting read and an first class model.

Björn Bäcklund is here with a piece of Swedish Airmail history.  This is his 1/72 Northrop Delta 1E which was modified from a Williams Bros kit.  Once Björn got his model built, he displayed it on his custom base that looks like the AB Aerotransport logo

Björn Bäcklund is here with the first Viggen prototype for the two seater.  This is the 1/72 SAAB 37800 - two seat Viggen prototype made from 2 different kits with  a big amount of time and effort on Björn's part.  I do love the look of this Viggen Prototype.

Here's a product article for the 1/72 Sea Vixen FAW.1 resin cockpit set from Pavla ModelsThis set is designed for the Cyber-Hobby kit.

Denmark Constitutional Day

Seychelles Liberation Day

Our friend Uncle Rick Chin joins us with his 1/48 Revell F-15E (Part 2).  Rick had a quick and easy way to drop the flaps and the interior painting on the burner cans is first class.  I miss Rick.

Mauricio Castro has done a lovely job painting his 1/32 Revell Bf109 G6.  Mauricio  has some excellent advice about lightening paints in the cockpit due tot he lack of natural light.  His 109 looks exceptional.

Shawn "phantom" Weiler is here with his RCAF 1/48 Classic Airframes CF-116D (F-5B) #3 wearing an very early "grape scheme".  The Classic Airframes kit is not known as an easy build, but Shawn stuck with it and turned it into a great looking Canadian jet.  I love the paint scheme.

  Battle of Midway (1942)

With deepest sorrow and sadness one of our modeling colleagues and well known member of the Alberta modeling and military history community has passed on.  Mr. Rick Chin of Uncle Bill's Hobby passed peacefully with family members at his side after a heroic battle with cancer.  Rick made a significant impact on many generations of modelers in Calgary and he will live on in our memory through his Group Of Modeler Builders (GOMB) Model fest in Calgary on October 11, 2014 at the Forest Lawn Legion.  Our condolences go out to Rick's loving family members. Rest in Peace Rick.
Edwin Situ

This does sound like an excellent show for many of us to gather. I plan to make an effort to attend this year, I'm long overdue for a trip to Calgary.

The late Uncle Rick Chin is featured today with 1/48 Revell F-15E (Part 1).  Rick was a true builder and when the Revell F-15E was first released.....Rick was the first one to get one built.  This is a 4 part article of Rick's OOB build.

Vince Pedulla returns with his latest installment of his Skyraider series.  This is his beautifully weathered  1/48 Matchbox/Tamiya AD-5W AEW “Guppy”.  Vince did a massive amount of work to kitbash this Skyraider and he explains the process in his article.  This is one outstanding project.

Kees Kuyper is here with another of his aviation designs.  This is the ASK Avanta "design" which is a low cost business jet proposal.  This is a very cool design and I loved seeing it.

Greg Kerry has done some amazing work on his 1/48 Zvezda Lavochkin La5FN diorama.  Greg added plenty of detail to his diorama and all of the painting was not done with an airbrush and Greg explains his painting technique in his article.  I enjoyed seeing all this photos of this gem.
